Lapland cabins, and what each operator publishes

What an operator had to publish to appear here

A place is in the tables below only if its own website printed a price in euros that we could read without entering dates, on a page we opened ourselves on 19 September 2026. Review scores don’t count, and nor do booking-platform figures, which change by the day and belong to the platform rather than the cabin. Nobody paid to be on this page. We sell nothing, take no commission and have no arrangement with any operator named here, which is also why the last table can name a famous resort that publishes no price at all.

The page covers Finnish Lapland only, ranks nothing and prints no ratings. Operators we opened that publish nothing get a row of their own, since knowing there is no number to find saves you the search.

Three kinds of seller, three ways of pricing

A Lapland cabin is a wooden self-catering unit with a kitchen and, at every operator we opened, its own sauna. What changes is who is selling it to you, and each of the three sells in a different unit.

A hotel group that also owns log cabins puts a “from” figure on the cabin’s own page, beside a floor area and a maximum number of guests, exactly as it does for its rooms. A fell-resort cottage agency at Ylläs quotes a week, or at the shortest a weekend, and never a night, because a week is the thing it sells. Metsähallitus, the Finnish state forestry agency, publishes an exact nightly figure for each of its wilderness huts along with the date that figure goes up.

So a search for the nightly rate of a resort-village cabin often comes back empty. Until this week our own where to stay page said we could not find a published nightly rate on any cabin operator’s own site. That was wrong, and the line has gone: the prices were there all along, quoted by the week or the weekend.

Priced by the night: hotel groups with log cabins

One group, Wilderness Hotels, publishes a nightly figure for every cabin at every property we opened. Muotka is in the Saariselkä area, about 45 minutes by car from Ivalo airport. Wilderness Hotel Inari stands at Inarintie 2 on the shore of Lake Inari. Nangu is at Veskoniementie 1320, near Ivalo, also on Lake Inari.

Every number there is a starting price, the lowest figure the operator prints. None of the three properties says which dates it applies to, whether a Tuesday in October or the week of 24 December 2026, so don’t plan with any figure on this page as a Christmas rate.

The same properties publish room rates beside their cabin rates, and that comparison makes sense of a cabin price. At Muotka the plainest room, the Wilderness Room, is 20 m² for two from 149 EUR, against 249 EUR for the 42 m² cabin that sleeps four. At Inari the equivalent room is 25 m² for two from 156 EUR. At Nangu the room is 23 m² for two from 479 EUR, and a 35 m² Superior Sauna Room is from 580 EUR. At all three the cabin costs well above the room, and the difference buys a kitchen, a sauna of your own and your own door onto the snow.

Not for a self-catering week away from other people, because these are cabins inside a working hotel and the hotel’s season decides when you can have one. Muotka runs 28 August to 14 November 2026 and then 15 November 2026 to 4 April 2027. Inari is open in every season except May. Nangu opens on 27 November 2026 and closes on 2 April 2027, and it also keeps two common saunas, where a private session costs 10 EUR per 30 minutes.

Priced by the week: the Ylläs cottages

Three cottage operators at Ylläs publish prices and none of them publishes a nightly one. Suomi-Holiday Oy lists ten cottages, mostly in Äkäslompolo village about 5 km from the slopes, with a weekend figure and a week figure against each. AuroraCottage states the unit on the page: all prices are quoted per week. Cabins in Ylläs prints the word WEEK beside every figure.

Across Suomi-Holiday’s ten cottages the weekend figures run from 370 to 700 EUR and the weekly ones from 750 to 1,800 EUR. AuroraCottage says electricity, water, firewood and the final cleaning are in the price, and that linen availability varies by property. Suomi-Holiday’s index page does not say either way, so ask.

The nightly figure in this paragraph is our own arithmetic. Two of those operators publish a lowest weekly price for a cottage sleeping four, 590 EUR and 975 EUR, which across seven nights comes to about 84 to 139 EUR a night. We did the division only to set a cottage beside a hotel cabin. No operator quotes or offers that rate, and it means nothing once your trip is shorter than a week: a cottage taken for seven nights and used for three has saved you nothing.

Not for a short break, then, or for anyone who needs the total before they enquire, since a weekly price with no dates attached still has to be checked against your own week. For four nights at Ylläs, look at a hotel room, a weekend rate, or a longer trip.

The state’s huts, and what they are not

Metsähallitus rents out more than a hundred huts across Finland, mostly near the national parks and hiking areas, and it is the one seller in this subject that publishes an exact price with the date it changes. A hut can be booked for a single night, or for up to a week at a time, through the booking calendar on its own page.

A rental hut has sleeping platforms, a table, benches, cooking utensils, a stove, often a gas cooker and a dry toilet, and sometimes mattresses, blankets, pillows, firewood and an axe. Tammakkolampi has no electricity and takes its water from a lake or river nearby. Suomun Ville has neither electricity nor running water, and its water comes from the Suomujoki. Both sit inside Urho Kekkonen National Park and neither page states how you reach it by road, or whether you reach it by road at all in February.

A 70 EUR hut and a 249 EUR log cabin are for different travellers, and we would not offer one reader the choice between them. The cabin is a heated building with a kitchen that a hotel cleans. The hut asks for winter skills, a set of kit and a walk in, and its 70 EUR pays for the wood and the platform. An open wilderness hut is free for the same reason, and you share it with whoever else arrives.

Not for a first winter trip, not for anyone travelling with small children, and not for anyone who has never fetched their own water and lit their own stove in the dark.

The operators that publish no figure

Each of these is a well-known Finnish Lapland operator whose own site we opened on 19 September 2026 and found no price on.

Most of this stock is sold through a booking calendar, and an operator whose price moves with the week has good reason not to print one. You will have to enquire before you can compare these with the tables above. And if you see one of these names beside a firm nightly price somewhere else online, that price did not come from them.

One figure often gets pinned on the wrong product. Kakslauttanen’s winter half-board rate from 501 EUR a night, which our where to stay page quotes, is for its glass igloos. Its accommodation index shows no figure at all against any of the five log cabin types.

Log cabins in Lapland with a hot tub

Five of the operators on this page mention a hot tub on their own sites. One sells it as part of the cabin, one prints a separate charge for it, and the rest leave the cost to an enquiry.

Only TievaPeak says how the water is kept warm, and none of the five says whether a tub can be used on the coldest nights. Before you book a hot tub cabin for winter, ask:

• Is it heated all the time, or on request, and how many hours does it take to reach temperature?
• Can you use it at -20 °C or colder, and who clears the snow and ice around it?
• Does the price include it, or is it charged by the night, the week or the stay?
• Who cleans and refills it between guests, and is it yours alone or shared?
• If it is wood-fired, who lights it, and is the wood included?

What we left out, and why

Cabins with a glass roof over the bed are a different product and they have their own page, glass igloos, which is where we compare them. All three Wilderness Hotels properties sell one alongside the log cabins in the first table: an Aurora Cabin of 30 m² for four from 259 EUR at Muotka, 29 m² for four from 280 EUR at Inari, and a 29 m² Aurora Log Cabin for two from 785 EUR at Nangu. They share a brochure with the log cabins, but not a table.

Hot tubs have their own section above. Five operators is still too few to say whether a hot tub is normal or rare in a Finnish rental cabin.

Several sites we wanted would not open at all. Ylläs Villas refused our request twice with an HTTP 403. Harriniva’s accommodation pages returned a 404 and the Torassieppi domain refused the connection outright. Holiday Home Lapland’s individual price pages returned a 404 from the address its index implies. Visit Rovaniemi’s cabins and cottages listing returned a 404 and Levi’s accommodation page came back empty. We did not try Lapland Hotels again, because it had served a bot-detection page to an automated check when we needed it for another page.

Two claims we were asked for are missing because nothing supports them. Nobody publishes a count of self-catering cabins in Finnish Lapland, so there is no basis for saying cabins are the most common kind of stay here; that idea comes from how often people search for them. And no operator page we opened says anything about winter road access or who clears the snow from the drive, which is the practical difference between a cottage in a resort village and a hut in a park. Ask before you book somewhere remote.
