About Explore Lapland

We write independent guides to Lapland. We do not own hotels, run tours or sell inventory, so the guides are free to tell you that a week is wrong for what you want, that a place is not worth the detour, or that you can plan this trip on your own.

What we do

We write down what each destination, month and experience in Lapland is like to visit: the cold, the short days, the crowds, the cost, and your chances of seeing the Northern Lights.

What is not for sale

Our recommendations. Money does not buy a place on a page, a better description or a higher position. If a placement is ever paid for, it is labelled sponsored where you see it.

How we are paid

The guides cost you nothing, and nothing is booked or paid for on this site. No one pays us to change what a guide says about a place, an activity or a month.

What we refuse to say

  • That you will see the Northern Lights. That cannot be known in advance.
  • That an activity carries no risk, or that an operator treats its animals well. You get the questions to ask instead.
  • Anything we could not confirm. The page says it is unconfirmed, and what we would ask.

When we are wrong

We correct the page and put the date of the change on it. How we check facts is set out in our editorial policy.
