Lapland itineraries
There are two itineraries here: a same-day trip from the UK to Rovaniemi, sold as a package from £699 per person for departures between 27 November and 23 December 2026, and five days based in Rovaniemi, which costs about 920 to 1,900 EUR per person before flights. Each says who it suits and who it does not.
Two itineraries, and who each one suits
A Lapland day trip
One very long day: a charter flight from a UK airport, about six hours on the ground in Rovaniemi and home the same night. Suits a family who wants Santa and cannot take a night away. Not for anyone hoping for the Northern Lights, because the flight home leaves before the hours they usually appear.
Five days in Lapland
Four nights in Rovaniemi, day by day: Santa Claus Village, a husky afternoon, Arktikum, a guided aurora tour and one loose day for weather, with a cost band per person. Suits a first winter trip and anyone who wants several evenings for the aurora. It also says what to drop for four days and what to add for a week.
How the two compare
The day trip is a package: the flight is in the price, and so are the activities the operator lists. Canterbury Travel sells one from £699 per person, for departures between 27 November and 23 December 2026. The five-day plan is one you book yourself, piece by piece, and its cost band excludes international flights and meals. On Statistics Finland’s monthly hotel averages for Rovaniemi and the operators’ own prices, it runs from about 920 EUR per person in March, with the lower activity choices, to about 1,890 EUR in December with the higher ones.
The real difference is the evenings. A day trip flies home before the hours the aurora is most often seen. Five days gives you four evenings in the dark, and the Northern Lights, when they come, come late. Our Northern Lights guide explains why more nights is what raises your chances.
What is not here, and why
There are two itineraries because those are the two we could build honestly from what this site has already checked: the day trip from the operators’ own pages, and five days from our Rovaniemi guide and the experience pages behind it. We have not written a ski week, a summer trip, or a route that moves between bases, and we will not put up a thin one to fill the page.
Until then, the nearest answers are elsewhere on the site. For a ski trip, skiing in Lapland. For a longer trip split between two bases, Rovaniemi or Levi. For a family, Lapland with children. For the month, when to go. And for anything else, the planners answer trip requests one at a time.
Who this is not for
